The first steps in diagnosis is a medical history and physical examination. Important clues during history taking include weight loss, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

• Associated symptoms often include:
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Weight change
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Fever
  • Changes in bowel habits
