Appendix cancer MRI

Overview
Abdominal MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of appendiceal cancer. Diffusion weighted MRI has been shown to be the modality of choice for peritoneal carcinomatosis evaluation.

- Abdominal MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of appendiceal cancer.
- Contrast enhanced MRI is the preferred method to evaluate liver metastasis, meanwhile triple phase CT scan is also highly recommended.
- Diffusion weighted MRI has been shown to be the modality of choice for peritoneal carcinomatosis evaluation. [1]
- Peritoneal carcinomatosis index (PCI), introduced by Jacquet and Sugerbaker is a globally accepted method of determining disease border in patients with appendix cancer.[2]
