CT

Head CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of brainstem gliomas. The findings will vary with the tumor type.[1]

  • Diffuse brainstem glioma
    • Typically hypodense with little, if any, enhancement
  • Focal brainstem gliomas
    • Isointense on CT
  • Tectal gliomas
    • Typical CT finding is homogeneous expansion of tectal plate, isodense to grey matter with minimal enhancement on postcontrast images. It is also common to find a central tectal calcification
