Chronic cholecystitis laboratory findings

Overview

Patients with acute cholecystitis are diagnosed based on clinical examination and imaging techniques. However, patients with acute cholecystitis are more likely to manifest abnormal laboratory values, while in chronic cholecystitis the laboratory values are frequently normal. Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of chronic cholecystitis include elevated alkaline phosphatase, leukocytosis, and elevated bilirubin. Amylase may also be elevated.
