Methods of primary prevention for cardiomyopathy include; maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, alcohol and illicit drugs, reducing stress, and treating underlying conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Primary Prevention
Methods of primary prevention for cardiomyopathy include; maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, alcohol and illicit drugs, reducing stress, and treating underlying conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure:[1]
- Quitting smoking
- Losing excess weight
- Avoiding the use of alcohol and illegal drugs
- Getting enough sleep and rest
- Reducing stress
- Treating underlying conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
- Genetic counselling is only recommended in individuals with family history of DCM.
