Encephalopathy laboratory findings

Laboratory tests include complete blood count , blood glucose, ammonia, creatinine, electrolytes and various hormones. Test for certain infections like hepatitis, syphilis are done.

• Complete blood count – identifying anemia and infections
• Blood glucose – hypoglycemia, diabetes
• Vitamin assays – vitamin deficiency (thiamine, B-12)
• Liver function tests
• Renal function tests
• Serum electrolytes
• Serum hormones – thyroid, parathyroid hormones
• Drug levels
• Urine analysis
• Urine toxicology screening
• Hepatitis serology
• Syphilis serology
