Erysipelas surgery

Overview

Surgery is not usually recommended for management of erysipelas. Surgical intervention may be indicated for the management of complications related to erysipelas, particularly those manifesting with more severe lesions that cause tissue necrosis and suppuration.

Surgery is not usually recommended for management of erysipelas.^[1]

Surgical intervention is primarily indicated for management of complications related to erysipelas, particularly those manifesting with more severe lesions that cause tissue necrosis and suppuration.

Necrotizing fasciitis: Intervention includes debridement of necrotic tissue or amputation of affected limb if indicated.^[2]^[3]
Gangrene: Intervention includes debridement, amputation, and revascularization when indicated.^[4]
Abscess: Intervention includes incision and drainage when indicated.^[5]
