Barium swallow may be helpful in the diagnosis of failure to thrive.

Other Imaging Findings

  • Barium swallow may be helpful in the diagnosis of failure to thrive.
  • The classic ‘bird’s beak’ appearance may be seen in patients with achalasia cardia. This increased tone of the lower esophagal sphincter causes a decfrease in calorie intake.
  • Barium swallow of a child being worked up for failure to thrive showing the classic bird beak appearance (frank dilated esophagous with an extremely narrow GE junction) seen in achalasia cardia.
