Fibroadenoma physical examination

Overview

Patients with fibroadenoma usually appear normal. Physical examination of patients with fibroadenoma is usually remarkable for a painless, firm, solitary, well-circumscribed, and mobile breast mass. Breast asymmetry can be seen in some patients.

Common physical examination findings associated with fibroadenoma include:[1][2]

  • Patients with fibroadenoma usually appear normal

Vital Signs

  • Vital signs of patients with fibroadenoma are usually normal.

Breast Exam

  • Firm, nontender, and solitary mass
  • Multiple masses are found in a few cases
  • Clearly demarcated mass of about 2 to 3 cm in size (can range from less than 1 cm to greater than 10 cm)
  • Smooth, mobile, and rubbery in consistency
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Breast hypertrophy

Skin

  • Skin examination of patients with fibroadenoma is usually normal.

HEENT

  • HEENT examination of patients with fibroadenoma is usually normal.

Neck

  • Neck examination of patients with fibroadenoma is usually normal.

Lungs

  • Pulmonary examination of patients with fibroadenoma is usually normal.
