Graft-versus-host disease CT

Editor-In-Chief: C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. [1] Shyam Patel [2]

Overview

There is no specific role for CT scan in GvHD. However, if there is concern about pneumonitis, CT scan of the chest can better delineate the pulmonary pathology. CT scan of the liver can assess for liver disease that may be confounding liver GvHD.

CT

CT scan of the abdomen can be done to help differentiate infectious etiology from GvHD. In patients who underwent bone marrow transplant and subsequently develop abdominal pain, the differential diagnosis can be broad. CT imaging can thus help rule out infection or other etiology. GvHD of the GI tract will present radiographically as inflammatory colitis.
