Overview
There are no recommended therapeutic interventions for the management of hepatopulmonary syndrome.
Indications
- The mainstay of treatment for hepatopulmonary syndrome is orthotopic liver transplantation.
- Supportive therapy for hepatopulmonary syndrome includes oxygen therapy.
- Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt has been recently studied but “TIPS neither improved nor worsened pulmonary gas exchange in patients with portal hypertension. This data does not support the use of TIPS as a specific treatment for HPS.”.[1]
