Human papillomavirus classification

Overview

Human papillomavirus may have different presentations depending on the anatomical region of involvement and the virus type. Mainly it is classified to cutaneous, anogenital and other mucosal surfaces.

Classification

Based on tissue involvement, human papillomavirus (HPV) is classified in to 3 main groups:

Cutaneous
Anogenital
Other Mucosal surfaces

Currently, 210 different types of HPV have been discovered and the number keeps increasing.^[1]^[2] Clinical manifestations depend on which HPV type involve which anatomic area.^[3]^[4]
