Hypogonadism physical examination

Common physical examination findings of hypogonadism include the absence of secondary sexual characteristics in both male and females. In males, pubic hair loss, loss of facial hair, small testicular size and congenital anomalies may be observed. In females, no axillary hair and amenorrhea are common.

• Patients with hypogonadism usually appear tired.^[1][2]
• In adults, general appearance shows the absence of secondary sexual characteristics. In males no beards and in females no breast development.

• In males:
  • Pubic hair loss
  • Loss of facial hairs
• In female:
  • No axillary hair

• In males:
  • Small testicular size
  • Congenital signs may be found like hypospadias
• In females:
  • Amenorrhea
