Infertility pelvic ultrasound

Overview

Pelvic ultrasound is a first line diagnostic modality used in the diagnosis of infertility. It can detect changes in endometrium, presence of fibroids etc with great accuracy.

Pelvic ultrasound

  • Pelvic ultrasound is used as a first line investigation in the diagnosis of infertility. [1]
  • Pelvic ultrasound can predict ovulation with higher accuracy than basal body temperature.
  • It can also detect the cyclical changes in uterine endometrium. These changes are absent in anovulatory cycles.[2]
  • The position of uterus, presence of fibroids, cystic changes in ovaries, congenital anomalies in the genital tract can be detected via pelvic ultrasound.
