Iron deficiency anemia echocardiography or ultrasound

Overview

Iron deficiency anemia can lead to significant load on heart as it causes a state of hyperdynamic circulation in the body. Echocardiographic findings of heart failure may be present.

Echocardiography or Ultrasound

On echocardiography, these findings may be seen^[1]:
- Increased thickness of left ventricular wall.
- Increased volume of left ventricular cavity.
- Systolic dysfunction and diastolic dysfunction in some cases.
Ultrasound findings:
- Splenomegaly in some cases.
