Effective measures for the primary prevention of lower GI bleeding include techniques to prevent the related conditions. Promoting a healthy lifestyle by eating a healthy diet, exercising lightly, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco can reduce the risk associated conditions. Other effective measures include:[1]
- Drinking plenty of water
- Reconsidering the dose of aspirin before starting treatment.
- Prevention of hemorrhoids by following a healthy bowel habit and by consuming dietary fiber and using laxatives when necessary.
- Polyps must be evaluated as soon as possible as they can be a pre-cursor colorectal cancer.
