Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia history and symptoms

The patients have a wide spectrum of clinical picture ranging from asymptomatic to anemia, thrombocytopenia, fever, altered mental status and impaired renal function^[1]. Some patients may also present with abdominal or cardiac symptoms^[2].

Common symptoms of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia include^[2][3]:

• Pallor
• Yellowing of sclera and skin
• Dark colored urine due to raised level of urobilinogen and unconjugated bilirubin
• Breathlessness
• Easy fatigability
• Petechia
• Purpura
• Epistaxis
• Bleeding from mucous membranes
• Fever
• Altered mental status
• Seizures
• Stroke
• Dizziness
• Slurred speech
• Transient ischemic attacks
• Renal failure
• Oliguria

Less common symptoms of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia include:

• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Vomitting
• Hematuria
• Hypertension
• Generalized Edema
• Cardiac arrhythmia
