Overview

MRCP is one of the preferred diagnostic tests in Mirizzi’s syndrome.
It can reveal stone in the common hepatic duct (CHD), extrinsic compression of the CHD and dilatation of the CHD with normal-sized common bile duct.
It can assess biliary and pancreatic ducts. ^[1]

ERCP is the gold standard diagnostic tool for Mirizzi’s syndrome. ^[2]
It can accurately show the presence and location of fistula (which might be missed on MRCP).
It is also beneficial therapeutically and can facilitate in the laparoscopic surgery. ^[3]
Since ERCP is an invasive procedure, it is associated with complications and should be done with caution.
