Overview

Measures that may reduce MASLD development or progression include maintaining a healthy weight, reducing excess caloric intake, limiting ultraprocessed foods, saturated fats, refined sugars, and sugar-sweetened beverages, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding alcohol intake, and effectively managing type 2 diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension.

Primary Prevention

Effective measures for the primary prevention of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease include:

  • Eating a healthy diet that is rich in vegetables, fruits and healthy fats is the first and very important step.[1][2]
  • Regular exercise
  • Maintaining a healthy weight
  • Alcohol cessation
  • Compliant with medications
  • Patients must also be immunized for hepatitis A and B.
