Obesity hypoventilation syndrome physical examination

People with OHS are usually very overweight. There is bluish color in the lips, fingers, toes, or skin (cyanosis) alongwith reddish complexion. There would be short, thick neck and small airway passage in the mouth.

Hypertension that is difficult to control with medication. Signs of right-side heart failure (cor pulmonale), such as swollen legs or feet, shortness of breath, or feeling tired after little effort may also be present.

In the eye, there is papilledema (swelling of the optic disc) in response to the raised carbon dioxide levels.^[1]
