Effective measures for the primary prevention of Onychomycosis include proper nail care.

1. keep the nails trimmed and dry.
2. Keep the hands and feet dry thoroughly after a bath, especially the areas between the toes.
3. Wear the right socks, to absorb the sweat and moisture.
4. Using open-toe shoes than closed-toe shoes.
5. Avoid picking the skin around the nails.
6. Avoid walking barefoot in public places such as showers, pools, locker rooms etc.
7. Always washing hands after handling the infected nails
