The onset and severity of presbycusis is influenced by multiple factors such as:[1]
- A genetic component that predisposes individuals to age-related hearing loss
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Infections
- Low socioeconomic status
- Noise exposure
- Ototoxins
- Smoking
- Vascular disease
