Overview
MRI is helpful in the diagnosis of early and subacute rheumatoid arthritis. Findings on MRI diagnostic of rheumatoid arthritis include synovial hyperemia, synovial hyperplasia, pannus, subchondral cysts, erosions, effusion of joints, and bone marrow edema.
MRI
MRI is helpful in the diagnosis of early and subacute rheumatoid arthritis. Findings on MRI diagnostic of rheumatoid arthritis include:[1]
- Inflammation of synovium which is called as synovial hyperemia
- Synovial hyperplasia also called as rice bodies
- Pannus
- The thickness of cartilage is decreased
- Subchondral cysts and erosions
- Effusion of joints
- Bone marrow edema
