Overview

MRI is the preferred test for the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. However, DEXA scan is helpful in the diagnosis of the complication of rheumatoid arthritis such as osteoporosis and osteopenia.

DEXA scan is helpful in the diagnosis of the complication of rheumatoid arthritis:[1][2]

  • T-score that is 2.5 SD or more below mean is classified as osteoporosis.
  • T-score that is 1 to 2.5 SD below mean is classified as osteopenia.
