Schwannoma medical therapy

Editor-In-Chief: C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. [1]; Associate Editor(s)-in-Chief: Maneesha Nandimandalam, M.B.B.S.[2]

Overview

Medical therapy

  • There is no obvious medical treatment for schwannomas other than managing the symptoms.

Radiotherapy

  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) [1][2][3]
  • Fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT)

SRS is the most commonly used between these as it causes minimal injury to adjacent tissues. However, there is a risk of progressive hearing deterioration associated with radiotherapy for vestibular schwannomas.
