The history of a patient with ARDS is entirely dependent on the precipitating illness or injury. The symptoms of ARDS are fairly nonspecific and include:[1]
- Rapid breathing (tachypnea)
- Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
- Increased work of breathing (labored breathing)
- Symptoms associated with the underlying illness
