Laboratory Findings
Common lab tests that are required for evaluating a patient with Alstrom syndrome include:
- Fasting blood glucose
- Glucose tolerance test
- Plasma insulin – hyperinsulinemia may be present
- Fasting lipid profile – hypertriglyceridemia may be present
- Thyroid function tests like TSH, free T4
- Blood pituitary hormone levels
- Urinalysis in symptomatic patients
- Blood urea, BUN, lectrolytes – may reveal renal failure
- Liver function tests like ALT, AST, GGT
