Laryngoscopy is done when the doctor wants to see if the thyroid lump is pressing on the larynx (voice box). Patients often have hoarseness if there is pressure on the larynx. A laryngoscopy allows the doctor to look at the vocal chord inside the throat using a flexible tube with a light and lens on the end (a laryngoscope).^[1]
