Chronic myelogenous leukemia other diagnostic studies
Overview
Overview
Other diagnostic studies for chronic myelogenous leukemia include bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture, and lymph node biopsy. Genomic PCR, southern blot assay, reverse transcriptase (RT) PCR, northern blot analysis, western blot analysis or immunoprecipitation can be helpful in the diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia; the gold standard diagnostic test in chronic myelogenous leukemia is cytogenetic analysis.

Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. After a small area of skin is numbed, a Jamshidi needle (a long, hollow needle) is inserted into the patient’s hip bone. Samples of blood, bone, and bone marrow are removed for examination under a microscope.[4]
