Overview
Overview
Tissue biopsy may be helpful in the diagnosis of epithelioid sarcoma. Findings on biopsy suggestive of epithelioid sarcoma include white nodules with infiltrating margins, epithelial cells well blended with fusiform cells with intracytoplasmic vacuoles, and “pseudo granulomatous” proliferation of cells around acellular necrotic debris.

Key Biopsy Findings in Epithelioid Sarcoma
- Tissue biopsy is the diagnostic modality of choice for epithelioid sarcoma.
- White nodules with infiltrating margins
- Epithelial cells well blended with fusiform cells with intracytoplasmic vacuoles
- “Pseudogranulomatous” proliferation of cells around acellular necrotic debris
- Hyalinized collagen and necrotic debris in the central zone
- Calcification in the necrotic zones[1]
- Multinuclear giant cells in the tumors
