Bone marrow biopsy is an important test and needed to make a diagnosis of essential thrombocytosis.[1] On bone marrow biopsy, essential thrombocytosis is characterized by bone marrow hypercellularity with clusters of megakaryocytes that stain positive for iron, increased reticulin, and no collagen fibrosis.
