Other imaging options are useful in determining the anatomy and how well a patient will respond to therapy.

Other Imaging Findings

Nuclear gastric emptying studies can help in the diagnosis of rapid gastric emptying.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]
It can also help assess a patient’s response to therapy
Nuclear gastric emptying studies are also known as gastric emptying scintigraphy.

A bland meal is given containing a small amount of radioactive material^[5]
The radioactive isotope is measured by x-ray every hour for 4 hours after eating
May be helpful in documenting rapid gastric emptying
Could help in ascertaining the anatomy
This test has a low sensitivity and specificity

A fiber-optic camera is passed down to the stomach while the patient is under anesthesia^[6]

The purpose for this is to exclude other disease processes and identify abnormalities with motility
May be helpful in ascertaining the anatomy
This could help rule out an ulcer which may also lead to rapid gastric emptying
