Hand foot mouth disease is a clinical diagnosis, there is no need for performing diagnostic tests.

Hand foot mouth disease is a clinical diagnosis, there is no need for performing diagnostic tests, however molecular testing can be done to identify the serotype of enterovirus.

Molecular Testing

It is done based on the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The detection of the serotype is by amplification of the 5′- untranslated region of the viral RNA.^[1]
