IMViC
Introduction
The IMViC tests are a group of individual tests used in microbiology lab testing to identify an organism.
These four tests include:
- Indole production
- Methyl Red test
- Voges-Proskauer test
- Citrate Production
These IMViC tests are useful for differentiating the the family Enterobacteriaceae, especially when used alongside the Urease test.
Except for the lowercase βiβ, which is added for ease of pronunciation, each of the letters in βIMViCβ stands for one of these tests. βIβ is for indole; βMβ is for methyl red; βVβ is for Voges-Proskauer, and βCβ is for citrate.
