Legionella micdadei is the only species of Legionella that stains acid-fast. It stains weak acid fast but loses this trait upon being grown in culture. It is the agent responsible for “Pittsburgh pneumonia”. Tatlockia micdadei is an alternative term for Legionella micdadei, aka Pittsburgh pneumonia agent and TATLOCK strain.[1]
