Editor-In-Chief: C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. [1]

Overview

Overview

Lewis antigen system is a human blood group system based upon genes on chromosome 19. There are two types of Lewis antigens, Lewis a and Lewis b. They are the only red cell antigens which are not produced by the erythrocyte itself. Instead, it is a component of body secretions, and is subsequently adsorbed onto the surface of the erythrocyte.
