Overview

Overview

Bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage is useful to obtain samples for finding lipid-laden macrophages.

Other Imaging Findings

Other Imaging Findings

  • Bronchoalveolar lavage is used in the diagnosis of lipoid pneumonia only mostly.[1]
  • Broncho alveolar lavage may reveal turbid or whitish fluid with fat droplets at the surface.
  • Frozen samples should be examined by various staining techniques to discriminate types of oils.
  • Some false negative cases have been reported.[2]
