Overview

CT scan is useful in detecting metastasis to organs and regional lymph nodes in merkel cell carcinoma.

Key CT findings in Merkel cell cancer

CT scan of the chest and abdomen may use to detect merkel cell carcinoma metastasis.^[1]
CT scan of the abdomen may shows the following:^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]
- Retroperitoneal and peripancreatic adenopathy
- Involvement of the lower left anterior chest wall
- Involvement of the ribs
- Involvement of the gut
CT scan of the head and neck may be also used to find merkel cell carcinoma that has spread to regional lymph nodes.
CT scan of the head may demonstrates a soft-tissue nodule in merkel cell carcinoma.
CT scan in patients with merkel cell carcinoma helps with staging of the disease.^[6]
