Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus physical examination

The patient looks sick in cases of septicemia.

• Elevated body temperature

• Tachycardia may be present.

• Regular

• Pulse may be weak.

• Hypotension may be present.

• Rapid, shallow respiratory rate may be present.

• Boils
• Carbuncles
• Pus in blisters – impetigo
• Small red, tender bumps – cellulitis
• Abscesses
• A rash may be present.

• Swelling in the area around the eye – stye.
• Tenderness around the eye.

• Bronchial sounds may be heard in pneumonia.
• Rales may be present.
• Decreased breath sounds may be heard in pleural effusion.

• S1, S2 are present.
• A functional flow murmur may be present.
• Pathological murmurs may be heard when valves are involved (e.g endocarditis).

• Joint tenderness
• Swollen joints
• Bone tenderness

• Confusion may be present.
