Pacemaker syndrome history and symptoms

Symptoms

No criteria have been developed to aid the diagnosis of pacemaker syndrome. Most of the signs and symptoms of pacemaker syndrome are nonspecific, and many are prevalent in the elderly male population.^[1]^[2]

Common symptoms documented in patients’ history, include:^[3]^[1]^[4]^[5]^[6]

Neurological
- Dizziness
- near syncope
- seizure
- mental status change
- headache
- confusion
- nocturnal restlessness
Hypotension:
- Sweating
- Apprehension
- Shock
- Orthostatic changes
Cardiovascular:
- Chest pain or chest fullness
- Heart failure
- Low cardiac output
  - Fatigue
  - changes in mental status
  - weakness
  - lightheadedness
  - dyspnea on exertion
  - lethargy

Heart rate related
- Palpitations associated with arrhythmias
Hemodynamic:
- Right upper quadrant (RUQ) Abdominal pain
- Headaches
- Cough
- Uncomfortable pulsations in neck or abdomen
