Symptoms
No criteria have been developed to aid the diagnosis of pacemaker syndrome. Most of the signs and symptoms of pacemaker syndrome are nonspecific, and many are prevalent in the elderly male population.[1][2]
Common symptoms documented in patients’ history, include:[3][1][4][5][6]
- Neurological
- Hypotension:
- Sweating
- Apprehension
- Shock
- Orthostatic changes
- Cardiovascular:
- Chest pain or chest fullness
- Heart failure
- Low cardiac output
- Fatigue
- changes in mental status
- weakness
- lightheadedness
- dyspnea on exertion
- lethargy
- Heart rate related
- Palpitations associated with arrhythmias
- Hemodynamic:
- Right upper quadrant (RUQ) Abdominal pain
- Headaches
- Cough
- Uncomfortable pulsations in neck or abdomen
