Paget-Schroetter disease laboratory findings

Paget-Schroetter disease is not diagnosed based on laboratory findings since except D-dimer, other laboratory values are commonly normal

• Elevated D-dimer^[1]
  • Elevated D-dimer level has only 14-60% specificity in upper extremity vein thrombosis.^[2]
  • Since the Paget-Schroetter disease is rare, there is no established data supporting routine D-dimer test or a definitive diagnostic tool.^[3]
• To exclude other differential diagnosis consider laboratory workups from the list below:
  • CBC
  • Thrombophilia panel (protein C and S levels, antithrombin levels, prothrombin gene mutation analysis, factor V Leiden mutation testing)^[4]
  • Liver function tests
  • Creatine kinase^[5]
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate^[6]
  • C-reactive protein^[7]
  • Urinalysis^[8]
