Pleomorphic adenoma MRI

Overview

MRI is the imaging modality of choice for pleomorphic adenoma. The findings on T1-weighted images are homogeneous intensity while on T2 it shows marked hyperintensity which reflects abundant myxochondroid stroma. On Gd-T1 it shows heterogeneous enhancement.

MRI

MRI is the imaging modality of choice for pleomorphic adenoma.^[1]
MRI criteria for the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma include the following:^[2]
- Bright T2-signal
- Sharp margins
- Heterogeneous nodular enhancement
- Lobulated contours
- T2-dark rim
On T1-weighted images:
- Pleomorphic adenoma’s show homogeneous intensity. ^[3]
On T2-weighted images:
- Marked hyperintensity reflects abundant myxochondroid stroma.^[4]
- Hypointensity reflects the fibrous capsule of the tumor.^[4]
On Gd-T1weighted images:
- It shows heterogeneous enhancement.^[3]
