Overview

Pulmonary stretch receptors are mechanoreceptors found in the lungs.

When the lung expands, the receptors imitate the Hering-Breuer reflex, which reduces the respiratory rate. Increased firing from the stretch receptors also increases production of pulmonary surfactant.
