Diagnostic criteria
- There are no established criteria for the diagnosis of pyonephrosis.
- Pyonephrosis should be suspected if the patient develops fever, chills, flank pain or back pain in addition to symptoms of urinary tract infection such as dysuria, urgency, frequency.
- Ultrasound can be used in the emergency setting and can rapidly establish or exclude the diagnosis of pyonephrosis.[1][2]
