Rug burn

A rug burn is a rash-like or burn-like injury resulting from the friction of rubbing bare skin on a rough surface, typically some sort of textile or rough cloth (such as a rug). The rash will quickly appear red and stay like that for a few days. The color of it will become more pigmented until it looks like normal skin in which case it will be healed. This is because new skin replaces the burnt skin over time as the burnt skin sheds.

One should not attempt to place ice on the burn under any circumstances. This may cause some pain and an increase in the burning sensation.
