Septate uterus

Editor-In-Chief: C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. [1]

Overview

Overview

A septate uterus is one where the uterine cavity is divided by a wall (or septum). The septum may extend only part of the way into the uterus, or it may extend as far as the cervix. Women with a septate uterus have a greater risk of miscarriage.

Septate Uterus can be corrected with surgery in most cases, referred to as a hystero metroplasty wherein the septum is incised in order to allow the uterus to have a more normal shape for a baby to grow.
