Sinusoidal obstruction syndrome other diagnostic studies

Overview

A transjugular liver biopsy can be helpful in the diagnosis of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. Common findings on liver biopsy include sinusoidal dilation and congestion by erythrocytes and thrombi within the terminal hepatic venules.

Other Diagnostic Studies

Liver Biopsy is usually not needed in the workup of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. If needed, a transjugular liver biopsy is preferred instead of percutaneous biopsy.
Findings on liver biopsy suggestive of sinusoidal obstruction syndrome include:^[1]^[2]^[3]
- Sinusoidal dilation
- sinusoidal congestion by erythrocytes
- Thrombi within the terminal hepatic venules
