CT scan is helpful in the diagnosis of splenic vein thrombosis.[1] In patients suspected of PVT, CT scan with or without contrast is first test to be ordered.

Findings on CT scan in splenic vein thrombosis:

  • Hyperattenuated material in splenic vein.
  • Non-enhanced intraluminal filling defect.
