- Scintigraphy may be helpful in the confirmation of diagnosis of struma ovarii. Scintigraphy scan done with iodine-123 or iodine-131 may be helpful in diagnosing a hyperfunctioning struma ovarii by evaluating the increased uptake of the radionuclide by the ovarian mass when compared to the thyroid gland.
