Secondary Prevention
Secondary prevention for thalassemia focuses on preventing the birth of infants who could be at risk for thalassemia. Secondary prevention involves genetic counseling of patients who are known carriers of alpha-globin or beta-globin chain mutations. Education programs have been instituted in a variety of countries to address secondary prevention.[1]
